EC Travels to HCAC Foe Franklin

Box Score FRANKLIN, Ind. â€" The Earlham College men's basketball team had three players in double figures on Saturday as the Quakers fell 79-71 at Franklin College.

Jack O'Flaherty topped the Quakers with 21 points in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference affair.

Chris Holmes tossed in 18 points, while Kirk Douglas finished with 15 points. Both players grabbed five rebounds.

Michael Parker added nine points and eight rebounds. Lajay Kelly pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.

Franklin (6-5, 3-1) opened the contest with a 15-6 advantage by the 13:10 mark of the first half.

Earlham was able to rally as they closed the gap to 25-21 when Douglas scored at 5:56.

After the Grizzlies scored on their next possession to make it 27-21, Earlham went on a 10-0 run capped by Iman Sharif hitting 1-of-2 free throws with 2:40 left to put the Quakers up 31-27.   

The Grizzlies answered with a run to lead 34-32 by halftime.

In the second half, Parker scored for the Quakers to tie the game at 34-34 with 19:00 on the clock.

Franklin scored the next five points and eventually widened the lead to 46-36 with 14:10 to go.

Holmes scored with 13:23 to play to make it 46-40. From that point, Franklin opened a double-figure advantage as the Grizzlies were able to hold off the Quakers.

The Quakers (2-9, 1-3) visit the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Wednesday. The HCAC contest starts at 7:30 p.m.
