RICHMOND, Ind. â€" The quest is still alive.
The Earlham College men's soccer team increased its chances of making the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament on Tuesday with a 2-0 victory over Defiance College.
The Quakers are 4-10-2 overall, but more importantly they are 4-3-1 in the conference. With one match remaining in the regular season, Earlham is now tied for third in the standings with Anderson University. However, the Ravens (10-6-1, 4-2-1) have two contests left. The top four teams qualify for the post-season tourney.
Victor Zuniga gave the Quakers an early 1-0 advantage over the Yellow Jackets (5-12-2, 3-4-1) when he scored at 9:51 of the first period with an assist from Nicholas Dey.
Masaki Nakamura made it 2-0 when he was able to get a header past the Defiance goalkeeper at 55:11. Zuniga picked up an assist on the play.
Earlham led 9-7 in shots, while the Yellow Jackets had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
Goalkeeper Aaron Falsetto had three saves for the Quakers.
The Quakers finish the regular season at Franklin College on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
