EC Travels to Defiance

Box Score DEFIANCE, Ohio â€" The Earlham College men's basketball team fell 56-41 to Defiance College on Wednesday night.

Jack O'Flaherty led the Quakers with 15 points in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference affair with the Yellow Jackets (17-5, 12-3), who are second in the league standings.

Phillip Boone finished with nine points, while Chris Holmes added six points and five rebounds.

Kirk Douglas had four blocks to extend his school record for a season to 71 rejects.

Michael Parker topped the Quakers with six rebounds.

Earlham started the contest with a 9-4 advantage after O'Flaherty hit a pair of free throws at the 14:33 mark of the opening period.

Defiance responded with a 9-0 run to go on top 13-9 at 11:59.

The Yellow Jackets extended their margin to 26-15 before the Quakers bounced back with five straight points capped by a 3-pointer from O'Flaherty with 2:19 to go. By intermission, Defiance led 30-20.

In the second half, O'Flaherty began the frame for the Quakers with a 3-pointer to close the gap 30-23 at 19:05.

From that point, the Yellow Jackets worked their way to a double-digit advantage as they held off the Quakers.

The Quakers (4-18, 3-12) entertain Franklin College on Saturday. The HCAC game on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center starts at 3 p.m.
