Last Second Shot Hurts Quakers

Box Score RICHMOND, Ind. â€" The Earlham College men's basketball team finished the home portion of its schedule on Wednesday as the Quakers fell 65-63 to Bluffton University on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.

The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference affair was tied until the final moments. Bluffton's Dustin Kinn hit a short jumper with less then one second remaining after grabbing an offensive rebound to win the game.

Kirk Douglas led the Quakers with 24 points, seven rebounds and eight blocks. He now has a school record 83 blocks on the season.  

Jack O'Flaherty end the night with 21 points, while Phillip Boone tossed in seven. Michael Parker added six points and three assists.

Earlham got off to a quick start as the Quakers built a 12-2 advantage after Douglas scored at 13:46 of the opening period.

The Quakers were able to hold on to their lead as the Beavers cut into the lead to close the gap to 18-16 at the 8:16 mark.

After the Quakers widened their margin to 26-18 on an O'Flaherty 3-pointer, Bluffton (9-15, 5-12) closed to within 34-33 with 1:27 left in the first half. Earlham led 37-35 at the intermission.

In the second half, Bluffton scored first to take the lead for the first time at 38-37. The Quakers answered to grabs small lead before the contest was tied at 49-49 with 13:38 left to play.

Bluffton scored seven straight points to go in front 56-49 at 11:32. From that point, the Quakers were able to fight back into the game to tie it at 63-63 when Douglas hit a pair of free throws with 15 seconds left to set the stage for the ending.

The Quakers (5-19, 4-13) finish their season at Anderson University on Saturday. The HCAC game begins at 3 p.m.
