ANDERSON, Ind. â€" A basket in the final moments on Saturday ended another tight game for the Earlham College men's basketball team.
Unfortunately for the Quakers, Anderson University scored the last tally of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference affair to win 74-73.
Chris Holmes led the Quakers with 21 points, while Kirk Douglas had 20 points. Both players led Earlham with eight rebounds. Douglas also had five blocks to give him a school record 88 this season.
Phillip Boone tossed in 12 points.
The contest was close early with both squads holding small advantages before the Ravens were able to establish a 22-15 lead with 9:56 remaining in the first half.
Later in the stanza, Michael Parker hit a 3-pointer to close the gap to 29-27 with 6:31 on the clock. By halftime, Anderson led 38-35.
In the second half, Anderson was able to maintain its edge until Iman Sharif drilled a 3-pointer to put the Quakers on top 60-59 with 8:14 left in the game.
Like the first half, both teams were able to take the lead before the game was tied for the ninth time at 69-69 with 51 seconds remaining.
From there, Sharif hit 1-of-2 free throws to give Earlham a 70-69 lead with 39 seconds on the clock.
The Ravens followed with a 3-pointer before the Quakers answered with a trey by Boone, which put the Quakers in front 73-72 with 10 seconds left to set the stage for Anderson's winning basket.
Earlham finishes the season at 5-20 overall and 4-14 in the HCAC.
