Box Score RICHMOND, Ind. — Saturday was a tale of two different halves for the Earlham College men's basketball team as the Quakers fell 79-60 to Mount St. Joseph University on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center.
The Quakers started their Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference against Mount St. Joseph with a 12-point lead at halftime, but the Lions had a 53-22 edge in the second period.
Building the Lead
Earlham fell behind early, but the Quakers soon answered with a rally to build a 20-11 advantage after Elijah Wilson-Thomas drilled a 3-pointer with 13:22 left in the opening frame.
The Lions (10-3, 5-1), who share the lead in the HCAC with Defiance College and Hanover College, closed the gap to 20-18 with 10:00 left.
With eight straight points to end the first half, the Quakers were able to finish with a 38-26 lead.
Big Run for the Lions
In the second half the tide began to turn against the Quakers.
Wilson-Thomas hit a pair of free throws to begin the half, but Lions scored 14 points in a row to tie the game at 40-40 with 16:20 remaining in the game.
Mount St. Joseph added five more points to go on top 45-40 at the 15:24 mark.
From that point, the Lions were able to pull away for the win.
Kyle Smith led the Quakers with 15 points. Taylen Alexander added 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
Darius Meiman tossed in 11 points, while Wilson-Thomas finished with 10 points.
The Quakers (0-13, 0-6) travel to Transylvania University on Wednesday. The HCAC affair is at 7:30 p.m.
