Box Score NO. MANCHESTER, Ind. — The Earlham College men's basketball team fell 92-87 at Manchester University on Saturday.
Lajay Kelly led the Quakers with a career-high 22 points in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference game. Kamari Hunter also had the best effort of his career with 20 points.
Patrick Hawkins finished with 14 points, while Taylen Alexander added 12 points, nine rebounds and five assists.
Manchester (5-12, 4-6) grabbed an early led in the contest at 12-8 with 15:00 left in the opening period.
The Quakers kept the game close and eventually tied it twice before halftime with the final time coming with 5:25 remaining when Kelly scored to make it 30-30.
The Spartans would lead 40-35 by the intermission.
In the second half, the Quakers cut the deficit to one point three times. Kelly scored and then hit a free throw to make it 53-52 with 13:29 to go.
Manchester scored the next seven points to go on top 60-52 at the 11:37 mark.
Continuing to battle back, Hawkins hit a 3-pointer to make it 62-59 with 8:37 remaining.
From that point, the Spartans were able to build a double-digit margin. The Quakers, however, we not done and with seven seconds left Hunter drilled a 3-pointer to make it 90-87 as they ran out of time.
Earlham (0-17, 0-10) entertains Transylvania University on Wednesday. The HCAC affair on Schuckman Court in the Athletics and Wellness Center is at 7:30 p.m.
