Box Score RICHMOND, Ind. – Junior Kelly Mayhew scored two goals, but Bluffton's Ashley Keller netted a hat trick to lead the Beavers to a 4-2 victory over the Earlham College women's soccer team in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action on Saturday.
Earlham scored 3:40 into the contest when the Quakers drew a penalty kick. Mayhew calmly placed the shot to the goalkeeper's left to give Earlham a 1-0 lead. Bluffton would answer six minutes later and add two more goals to take a 3-1 lead into halftime.
Keller completed the hat trick with her third goal at the 86:25 mark. Mayhew answered 16 seconds later to get Earlham within two goals, but the Quakers ran out of time.
Earlham held a slight 16-15 edge in shots, but only fired eight on net compared to 10 for Bluffton.
The Quakers also earned five corner kicks while the Beavers took just two.
Juniors Cherrah Barclay and Michaela Bush took six and four shots respectively.
Senior goalkeeper Ashley (A.J.) Johnson took the loss, but made six saves in the game.
The Quakers continue HCAC competition on Tuesday against Transylvania. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Matlack Field
