Box Score CINCINNATI, Ohio – Sophomore Kayla Morris finished with 10 kills and eight digs, but the Lions of Mount St. Joseph knocked of the Earlham College volleyball team 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-21) in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play on Saturday.
After falling in set one, the Quakers trailed 16-9 in set two, but fought back with three blocks to get within two points at 22-20. The Lions used two kills from Jessica Wilbenbusch and an attack error to win set two.
Earlham again found itself behind early as the Quakers trailed 9-1 in set three. Mount St. Joseph would eventually lead 24-17, but Earlham fought off four set points before a kill from Hannah Losey clinched the match for Mount St. Joseph.
Morris added two solo blocks to go along with her 10 kills and eight digs. Freshman Ashleigh Burton added four kills, two solo blocks, and two block assists. Freshman libero Megan Hedinger added nine digs in the contest.
Wilgenbusch finished with 17 kills and a .355 attack percentage to lead the Lions.
Earlham continues HCAC play with a 7 p.m. match at Hanover on Oct. 14.
