Women's Soccer Scores Three, Falls at Manchester

Box Score

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Earlham College women's soccer team scored three goals, but the Spartans from Manchester University scored four including the game-winner in the 81st minute to defeat the Quakers 4-3 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action on Saturday.

Sophomore Kelsey Moore opened the scoring at the 6:03 mark of the first half. The Granville, Ohio, native took a pass from junior Micaela Bush and beat Manchester goalkeeper Caroline Smith.

Manchester responded with two goals in less than a minute to take a 2-1 lead. The Quakers had the answer, however, as junior Kelly Mayhew knotted the score at 2-2 with her goal in the 27th minute.

Brandy Crause would find the back of net to give the Spartans a 3-2 edge midway through the second half. Earlham had the answer yet again as freshman Zoe Wallis netted her first goal of the season off of another assist from Bush.

The Spartans had the last laugh as Courtney Hersick scored the game-winning goal with nine minutes to play in regulation.

Mayhew and Moore fired two shots on net in the contest. Junior Cherrah Barclay also took two shots, but neither were on target.

Senior goalkeeper Ashley (A.J.) Johnson made eight saves in the loss.

The Quakers return to action on Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
