Zuniga Powers Men's Soccer to Opening HCAC Win

ANDERSON, Ind. – Sophomore Victor Zuniga scored two goals to propel the Earlham College men's soccer team to a  3-0 shutout win over Anderson to open Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play on the road on Saturday.

Zuniga opened the scoring at the 18:48 mark as the Middlesex, N.J., native scored off of a corner kick. Despite outshooting Anderson 9-5 in the first half, Earlham could not find the net again.

Senior Jacob Ebbs put the Quakers up 2-0 in the 58th minute as he delivered his fourth goal in three games. Zuniga then put the game away in the 67th minute, scoring of off a corner kick to net his second goal of the game.

Earlham held a 17-13 advantage in shots including a 9-7 edge in shots on goal. The Quakers also earned six corner kicks compared to one for the Ravens.

Individually, Ebbs took seven shots with five being on het. Jacob Pokorski led Anderson with four shots.

Freshman goalkeeper Nicola Manni earned a shutout victory while making seven saves over 90 minutes.

The victory over Anderson was Earlham's first since a 4-1 victory over the Ravens at Matlack Field on Sept. 15, 2009.

The Quakers now stand at 4-4-0 and 1-0-0 in HCAC play. Earlham travels to Hanover for a 4 p.m. contest on Oct. 6.
