RICHMOND, Ind. – Sophomore Nicholas Dey scored his 10th goal of the season propelling the Earlham College men's soccer team to a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament berth with a 1-0 win over Franklin on Saturday.
The first half of the game was very defensive as only two shots were fired in the entire session, both by Franklin. The Quakers held an 8-5 shots edge in the second half including a 3-1 edge in shots in goal. Dey's broke the deadlock in the 81st minute as he received a pass from senior Jacob Ebbs and beat Franklin goalkeeper Cody Chapman.
Chapman finished with two saves on the day while Earlham sophomore goalkeeper Nicola Manni saved the Grizzlies' only shot on net. The Quakers earned four corner kicks in the contest compared to three for Franklin.
With the win, Earlham secures the No. 3 seed in the HCAC Tournament, a place the Quakers have not been since 2013. Earlham will face off against No. 2 seed Rose-Hulman at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in Terre Haute. No. 1 seed Hanover hosts No. 4 Transylvania at 2 p.m. on that same day.
