TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Earlham College men's soccer team saw its 2015 season come to an end in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Tournament semifinals with a 2-0 loss to Rose-Hulman on Tuesday.
The Fightin' Engineers (13-2-4) scored the first goal of the game with ten minutes to play in the first half. Rose-Hulman earned a corner kick and Trevor Bednarek fired the loose ball into the side netting.
Trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Quakers surrendered a penalty kick in the 56th minute. Sophomore goalkeeper Nicola Manni came close to saving it, but the Austin Webb shot found the lower corner.
Earlham's best chance to score game in the first half when senior Jacob Ebbs broke loose and fired a shot from the top of the 18-yard box that sailed just wide of goal.
Rose-Hulman held a 11-6 advantage in shots. Sophomore Victor Zuniga led the Quakers with three shots.
Along with Ebbs, seniors Mussa Ibrahim, Timothy Toninga, Ibrahim Diarra, Koby Sarfo-Panin, and TiQi Brown played their final games wearing an Earlham uniform. The class finished with a record of 27-36-9 including an HCAC regular season championship in 2013.
Under the direction of first-year head coach Sam Byrd, Earlham finished the 2015 season with a 9-7-1 record as well as a 6-2-1 mark in HCAC competition.
