Box Score 2 JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Earlham College volleyball team split a pair of matches conclude the Illinois College Tournament with a 2-2 record. The Quakers fell to Olivet 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-16) and defeated Robert Morris-Springfield 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-16) to conclude the tournament.
In the loss to Olivet, freshman Abigail Sheehan dished out 18 assists. Sophomore Kayla Morris finished with 12 kills and seven errors on 38 attack attempts. Freshman Ashleigh Burton tallied seven kills, four digs, and two block assists. A pair of freshmen, Denisha Mataia and Jessica Dammeyer, combined for 15 digs.
In the victory over Robert Morris-Springfield, the Quakers hit .183 at a team including a blistering .324 attack percentage in the first set. Morris finished with a double-double (11 kills and 10 digs) while a trio of Quakers (Burton, freshman Skylar Muckway, and freshman Megan Hedinger) finished with exactly six kills. Mataia and Hedinger combined for 32 digs while Sheehan added 28 assists in the three-set match.
Morris was named to the All-Tournament team for her performance over the weekend.
"Our wins did not come easily this weekend, and it took every member of this team to make it happen," head coach Lauren Crump said. "We played hard, but still have a lot of improvements to make before we reach the next level."
Earlham now sits at 3-11 on the season and returns to action on Sept. 23 for a match at Wilmington. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
