Box Score RICHMOND, Ind. – The Earlham College women's soccer team held Spalding University scoreless through the first half, but the Golden Eagles struck for three second half goals to defeat the Quakers 3-0 on Wednesday.
Lauren Locke broke the deadlock in the 51st minute with a shot that bounced off the crossbar and in.
Spalding would add two more goals in the final 29 minutes. Earlham senior goalkeeper A.J. Johnson denied a fourth goal by stopping a penalty shot in the waning minutes.
Spalding held an 18-11 advantage in shots, though Earlham outshot the Golden Eagles 10-9 in the first half. Both teams were called for two offside violations. The Quakers held a slight 2-1 edge in corner kicks.Junior Michaela Bush led the offensive charge for the Quakers firing five shots, two of which were on goal. Freshman Zoe Wallis took two shots with four other Quakers attempting one shot.
Johnson finished the game with 11 saves. Kelsey Kaiser, the victorious goalie, finished with six saves.
Spalding improves to 1-0 on the season while Earlham dips to 0-1. The Quakers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 5, when the Millikin Big Blue come to Richmond for a 4 p.m. contest.
