Box Score RICHMOND, Ind. – Sophomore Nicholas Dey netted two goals including the game-winner in the 69th minute as the Earlham College men's soccer team earned its first win of the 2015 season, a 3-2 victory over Emory & Henry (Va.) on Saturday.
Dey opened the scoring in the 14th minute beating Emory & Henry goalkeeper Didier Grillet one-on-one. The goal mark Earlham's first as a team in the 2015 season.
Pierce Morland evened the score in the 16th minute, but junior Victor Zuniga gave the Quakers a 2-1 edge going into halftime with a free kick goal in the 31st minute.
Freshman Nicola Manni played the second half in goal for the Quakers, and ended up picking up the victory. Joel Tidman headed in the Wasps' second goal to knot the game at 2-2 and put Manni's victory in doubt. A minute later, Dey scored his second goal of the game in what would prove to be the game-winner.
Earlham held a 17-7 shots advantage including a 12-3 margin in the second half. Emory & Henry held a slight edge in corner kicks, 3-2.
The win marked head coach Sam Byrd's first win leading his alma mater.
Earlham now stands at 1-1 on the season and returns to action on Sept. 9 for a game against Wabash College. The game is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
