Box Score LEXINGTON, Ky. – Four Quakers scored in double figures, but Parker Stansberry poured in a game-high 26 points as Transylvania defeated the Earlham College men's basketball team 88-71 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action on Wednesday.
Senior Taylen Alexander and freshman Alex Topalovic each tallied 13 points while freshmen Chainey Zolman and Isaiah Waire added 11 and 10 points respectively. Junior Kamari Hunter added seven points while dishing out six assists.
Along with Stansberry, Alex Jones, who added 11 assists, Lowell Gordon, and Cooper Theobald were the other Pioneers to finish in double figures.
The Quakers jumped out to a 15-10 lead when Waire nailed a three-pointer at the 14:49 mark of the first half. Transylvania had the answer, however, as the Pioneers used two triples and a layup to regain an 18-15 edge.
Earlham would tie the ballgame again 22-22 when junior Kyle Smith connected on a jump shot. Transylvania would end the half on an 11-5 run and lead 33-27 at the break.
The Quakers began the second half scoring on its first four possessions including two three-pointers from Zolman. A third consecutive triple from Topalovic got Earlham within a single points, 39-38.
Transylvania would the put the game out of reach by going on a 17-2 run over the next three minutes.
Both team shot the ball well from the field as the Pioneers connected on 55 percent of their shots compared to 52.1 percent for the Quakers. Earlham hit a season-high 11 three-pointers while Transylvania added nine.
The Quakers return to action on Saturday for a 2 p.m. game against Franklin.
