Zolman Pours in 21 in Men's Basketball Loss to Transy

RICHMOND, Ind. – Freshman Chainey Zolman scored a career-high 21 points, but the Transylvania Pioneers outrebounded the Earlham College men's basketball team 41-24 and defeated the Quakers 76-66 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action on Wednesday.

Earlham got out to a 12-9 lead using baskets from senior Taylen Alexander, junior Kamari Hunter, and sophomore Elijah Wilson-Thomas. The Pioneers scored the next six points to regain the lead, but a layup from junior Lajay Kelly at the 8:35 mark in the first half gave the Quakers a 20-19 advantage.

In the final eight minutes, Transylvania went on a 23-11 run to end the first half, giving the Pioneers a 42-31 lead at the break.

The Quakers got the lead down to six points (46-40) with 17:43 to play, but could get no closer.

Zolman led all scorers with 21 points and three rebounds in 28 minutes off of the bench.

The Pioneers featured a balanced scoring attack as all five starters finished in double figures. Robert Dence, Alex Jones, and Cooper Theobald all finished with 15 points.

Both teams shot over 45 percent as Earlham finished 25-52 (48 percent) and Transylvania shot 27-58 (47 percent) from the field. The Pioneers held a distinct rebounding edge, however, 41-24 including 13-4 in offensive rebounds.

The Quakers hit the road for their next contest, a 2 p.m. tip-off at Hanover on Saturday.
