RICHMOND, Ind. - The Earlham College women's soccer team took a loss to Defiance College 3-1 in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) contest at Matlack Field on Wednesday evening.
Starting off the first half, Kat Wicher made the first goal with an assist from Katie Memmer giving Defiance a 1-0 lead 12 minutes in. Miranda Herevia put the Yellow Jackets ahead two goals with a strike from 12 yards out at the 41:00 mark. Senior Cherrah Barclay gave the Quakers hope as she netted a goal off of a pass from freshman Emma Lady 25 seconds later.
In the second half, Earlham tried to level out the playing field, but ultimately Defiance put the game away as Sarah Madras scored in the 80th minute.
Earlham had a 19-6 attempted shots advantage to Defiance. Defiance goalkeeper, Madi Bowman, earned the win with seven saves.
The Quakers will be back on the field Saturday, Oct. 15, when Anderson University comes to Matlack field as part of homecoming weekend. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
