Box Score

DANVILLE, Ky. – Sophomore Darrell Hutchison poured in a career-high 24 points leading the Earlham College men's basketball team to a 64-60 win at Centre College on Wednesday afternoon.

The Colonels got off to a quick start hitting four of their nine three-pointers in the first ten minutes. Trailing 26-12, the Quakers went on a 12-2 run in the next seven minutes capped by a jumper from freshman Kenneth Stalling Jr. to get within four points.

Centre (4-4) led 33-28 at halftime, and Art Walker's three-pointer with 12:18 to play in regulation gave the home squad a 51-42 advantage. Similar to the first half, Earlham responded with a 13-2 run over the next seven minutes fueled by eight points from Hutchison.

After holding Centre to just two points over seven minutes, the Colonels' offense hit fire as they scored seven points over two minutes to take a 60-54 advantage with 2:30 to play.

The Quakers held Centre scoreless for the remainder of the game, and Hutchison scored five points followed by a go-ahead three-pointer from junior Elijah Wilson-Thomas with 41 seconds to play. After a stop, sophomore Nick Sands sealed the win with two free throws.

Sands finished with eight points while Wilson-Thomas and senior Lajay Kelly added six points each to go along with Hutchison's 24 points. Sophomore Isaiah Waire dished out a season-high five assists.

Bailey Rakes and Jarod Griffin combined for 27 points to lead Centre in defeat.

The Quakers held the Colonels' offense to 18.4 points fewer than they average (78.4 PPG). Earlham also outrebounded Centre 37-27, marking the second time this season the Quakers have grabbed more rebounds than their opponents.

The win avenges a 55-54 loss to Centre during the 2015-16 season.

Earlham improves to 5-5 on the season, tying the most wins the program has had in a season since the 2006-07 season. The Quakers will play for the final time this calendar year against Wabash College on Dec. 30. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
