Smith and Barclay Score in Women's Soccer Loss at Berea

BEREA, Ky. – The Earlham College women's soccer team battled back from two goals down to tie the game, but the Mountaineers of Berea College netted two goals just before halftime to seal a 5-2 victory over the Quakers on Sunday.

Berea scored less than a minute into the contest and again in the sixth minute to take a 2-0 lead. Junior Abbey Smith answered with a goal four minutes later cutting the Mountaineers lead to 2-1.

Senior Cherrah Barclay found the back of the net for the second time this season at the 39:00 mark off of a pass from freshman Jemayla Nelsonwood. With the game tied 2-2, Berea added two late goals in the first half and another in the second half to seal the victory. 

Berea took 14 shots in the game compared to 13 for Earlham. The Quakers did hold a 5-0 edge in corners kicks.

The Quakers will play one more road contest on Sept. 11 at the College of Wooster before opening at home on Sept. 14 vs. Wilmington.
