CINCINNATI, Ohio – Sophomore Darrell Hutchison led all scorers with 23 points as the Earlham College men's basketball team fell 87-60 at Mount St. Joseph University (MSJ) in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action on Saturday afternoon.
The Quakers hung with the first-place Lions for the first 15 minutes of the game. Earlham trailed MSJ 28-22 with eight minutes to play in the first half until sophomore Chainey Zolman enter the game. The North Manchester, Indiana, native scored five straight points to pull Earlham within three points (30-27).
MSJ would hold Earlham scoreless over the final 6:13 of the first half and ended the session on an 11-0 run to lead 41-27 at halftime.
Sophomore Nick Sands scored the first basket of the second half, but after an MSJ miss, the Lions scored on seven consecutive possessions to take a 57-37 lead and put the game away.
Along with Hutchison's 23 points, junior Elijah Wilson-Thomas finished with eight points, two rebounds, and one assist off of the bench. Sands and Bonin added seven and six points respectively.
Andrew Finley led the Lions with 20 points on 6-7 shooting from the field. Adam Goetz tallied 19 points while Jordan Henry added 13 points.
Earlham finished 45.3 percent (24-53) from the field while Mount St. Joseph shot 67.4 percent (31-46). The Lions grabbed 29 rebounds compared to 21 for the Quakers.
Earlham returns to action Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. trip to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
