Box Score LEXINGTON, Ky. – Transylvania University nailed eight three-pointers in the first half propelling the Pioneers to a 86-62 victory over the Earlham College men's basketball team in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action on Wednesday evening.
Sophomore Darrell Hutchison opened the game with a tip-in layup, but Transylvania scored 31 of the next 33 points to lead 31-4. The Quakers would get within 23 points on several occasions in the first half, but could get no closer as the Pioneers took a 47-23 lead at halftime.
The Pioneers opened the second half on a 16-6 run that put the game away.
Kenneth Stalling Jr. led the Quakers in scoring with 14 points, tying his career high. Senior Lajay Kelly poured in a season-high 10 points while junior Elijah Wilson-Thomas added nine points, three rebounds, and two assists off of the bench.
Alex Jones and Zachary Pulliam each scored 20 points to lead the Pioneers to a conference win. Jones added ten rebounds and four assists while Pulliam finished 6-11 from three-point range.
Entering the contest as the top scoring team in the HCAC, Transylvania finished 54.4 percent from the field including 15-31 from distance. Earlham made 25-62 shots for 40.3 percent. The Pioneers finished with 43 rebounds.
Earlham returns home on Saturday to host first place Hanover College. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
