RICHMOND, Indiana – Junior Yuki Adams scored a goal 3:17 into the contest as the Earlham College men's soccer team edged Defiance College 1-0 in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) game at Matlack-Messer Stadium on Wednesday.

A little over three minutes into the game, freshman Hunter Huber broke free down the flank and sent a cross into the box. The ball met the foot of Adams who volleyed a shot past Yellow Jacket goalkeeper, Clay Musgrave, for what proved to be the game-winning goal.

The Quakers took nine shots in the first half compared to four for the Yellow Jackets.

In the second half, both teams had scoring chances, but neither could capitalize. Earlham took 17 shots in the final 45 minutes while Defiance fired just six.

Earlham held a distinct 26-10 edge in total shots including by an 11-4 margin in shots on goal. The Quakers' goalkeeper, junior Nicola Manni, saved all four shots that were on net to earn the victory.

Senior Nicholas Dey fired a team-high eight shots including two on goal. Sophomore Micah Roland took five shots and along with senior Vojislav Tatarevic and freshman Simon Dickerson, fired two shots on net each.

The Quakers improve to 2-9-1 overall with the win, but more importantly stand 2-1-1 in HCAC competition. Earlham looks for its third HCAC win when the Quakers travel to Anderson University for a 3:30 p.m. contest on Saturday.
