RICHMOND, Indiana – Mount St. Joseph University (MSJ) shot 60.7 percent from three-point range in an 86-58 victory over the Earlham College men's basketball team in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action on Saturday afternoon.

MSJ, who clinched the No. 2 seed for the HCAC Tournament next week with the win, scored 12 of the game's first 16 points. An Erik Edwards jump shot gave the Lions an eight-point advantage four-and-a-half minutes into the game.

Earlham answered with a 9-3 run capped by a three-pointer from sophomore Chainey Zolman making the score 15-13 with 13:01 remaining in the first half. A layup from senior Kamari Hunter on the next possession tied the game 15-15.

The Lions them broke the game open, outscoring the Quakers 16-4 over the next four minutes to lead 31-19. The Quakers got within eight points on two free throws from freshman Blake Bonin, but MSJ scored the half's last seven points and took a 40-25 lead into halftime.

Senior Lajay Kelly made one of two free throws to get Earlham within a dozen points (43-31) with 17:35 to play in regulation, but the Lions' 13-3 scoring burst that followed by the game out of reach.

Hunter led the Quakers with 14 points and two assists in his final collegiate game. Junior Elijah Wilson-Thomas added 12 points and five rebounds while freshman Kenneth Stalling Jr. had 11 points and three steals on 5-5 shooting off of the bench.

Andrew Finley led the Lions with 19 points and six rebounds. Edwards added 16 points on 8-10 shooting from the field.

MSJ shot 62.5 percent (30-48) from the field including making 17-28 three-point attempts for 60.7 percent. Earlham finished 40-8 percent (20-49) from the field.

The Lions held a 31-19 rebounding edge as well as 17-9 in assists dished out.

The Quakers conclude their 2016-17 season with a 6-19 overall record, the program's best mark since an 8-18 finish during the 2006-07 season.
