Volleyball knocks off Anderson with convincing HCAC victory

Box Score

ANDERSON, Ind. – The Earlham College volleyball team turned in a dominant offensive performance on its way to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-15) victory over Anderson University, in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match on Saturday at the O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.

Earlham improved to 16-8 overall, 4-3 in the HCAC, and remained in the hunt for a home match in the opening round of the upcoming 2019 HCAC Volleyball Tournament.

Anderson fell to 8-15 overall, 2-5 HCAC, effectively eliminating the Ravens from contention for a post-season berth.

Sophomore Abbey Zanatta and junior Julia Stewart each charted 10 kills to pace the Quakers offensively, with Zanatta hitting .375 for the match and recording just one attack error. Sophomore Sarah Dickman finished the match with nine terminations. Senior Lauren Jackson guided an Earlham attack that hit .261 for the match, and finished the three-set triumph with 33 assists.

Defensively, first year Jennifer Shamel sprawled for a team-high 14 digs, with senior libero Sydney Ameluxen recording 11 digs and Stewart turning up 10.

At the net, the Quakers recorded 5.0 blocks, led by sophomore Giselle Mora (1 block solo, 2 block assists) and Zanatta (3 block assists).

Anderson's Jimena Montano was the only Raven to crack double-figures in kills with 10, leading an AU squad that hit a mere .093 on the day. Brooke Troyer turned up 20 digs for the Ravens.

Earlham volleyball returns home on Wednesday, Oct. 30, when the Quakers host Rose-Hulman in an HCAC match at the Druley Performance Gym. Match start time will be 7:00 p.m. The Quakers' three seniors – Lauren Jackson, Sydney Ameluxen, and Angelica Carpio – will be honored in pre-match ceremonies.
