Box Score CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – A career-best 24-point night from junior Jamel Barnes Jr. and a total of four Quakers in double figures still left Earlham College men's basketball short of the mark in an 85-72 loss to No. 14 Wabash, Tuesday night at Chadwick Court.
Barnes was 9-of-16 from the field with three 3-pointers. Kenneth Stalling Jr. finished the night with 11 points, while John Sakaleros and Blake Bonin had 11 and 10 points respectively.
Earlham (2-1) shot 47.4 percent from the floor, and was 15-of-18 (.833) at the free-throw line. However Wabash bested the Quakers behind a 56.1 percent shooting performance, including a 7-of-19 mark from 3-point range. The Little Giants were 14-of-20 at the charity stripe.
A 14-3 Wabash run midway through the first half proved to be Earlham's undoing, and left the Little Giants with a 25-14 lead at the 7:42 mark of the opening half. Wabash's first half lead peaked at 19 points, 45-26, following a pair of Jack Davidson free throws, before a pair of buckets by Barnes in the final 20 seconds trimmed the margin to 45-30 at the intermission.
Earlham rallied in the second half and pulled to within seven of Wabash, 49-42, following a pair of Bonin foul shots. The Little Giants answered with a 7-0 run, triggered by a Davidson trey, and the Quakers trailed by double figures for most of the remainder of the game.
Wabash also finished with four players in double digits, led by Davidson with 19 points. Harrison Hallstrom charted a double-double for the Little Giants with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Earlham men's basketball returns to action on Friday, Nov. 22, with a road contest; the Quakers will face Albion College in a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
