THE SHORT STORY
Earlham's hot shooting performance vaulted the Quakers into an early double-digit lead, getting a 12-point advantage, 19-7, over the Hornets as early as the 12:24 mark of the first half following a Zolman trey. A 6-0 run for K-zoo in the waning minutes of the opening frame briefly cut the margin to five points, 35-30, but a 3-pointer from Bonin with 26 seconds showing on the first half game clock sent the teams into the locker room with the Quakers in front, 40-32.
Kalamazoo chased down Earlham early in the second half, eventually tying the game at 47-47 on a layup from Thomas Cook. The Hornets built on that momentum and eventually led by eight points, 63-55, at the 10:28 mark of the second half.
Earlham rallied to outscore Kalamazoo 11-4 over the next three minutes. Trailing 67-66 with 7:04 to play in the game, a 12-0 run from the Quakers gave Earlham command of the game at 78-67 with 3:46 remaining. Zolman accounted for eight points during Earlham's decisive surge, including a pair of 3-pointers.
The Maroon and White led comfortably the rest of the way and cruised to the win.
