THE SHORT STORY
Earlham emerged from a hard-fought and see-saw first half with a 33-32 lead, and began pulling away from the Tigers midway through the second half. Back-to-back 3-pointers from Tommy Sanborn and Jamel Barnes Jr. put the Quakers in front, 55-46, with 9:55 remaining in the game, and Earlham appeared to have the Tigers under control.
Chainey Zolman's third foul put DePauw's Cooper Mixon on the line where he converted one of his two free-throw attempts to cut the margin to 55-47. However, that foul shot jump-started a 19-0 run over the Tigers, which included seven more points for Mixon, that lasted until the 4:31 mark of the second half and ended with DePauw holding a 65-55 lead.
The Quakers tried to claw their way back into the contest and managed to pull within five, 73-68, with 24 seconds to play following a Kenneth Stalling Jr. layup. The Tigers went a perfect 4-for-4 at the free-throw line over the final minute to preserve their lead.
