Women's soccer blanks Muskingum in season opener, 2-0

RICHMOND, Ind. – A pair of first half Quaker goals and solid defense over 90 minutes led Earlham College women's soccer to a 2-0 win over visiting Muskingum University, Friday afternoon at Matlack-Messer Field.

The win is Earlham's first in a season opener since 2014.

Nicole Burkett netted what was ultimately the game-winner in the fourth minute, with Eva Lyon tacking on a second goal in the 27th minute. Yana Miller was credited with the assist on Lyon's goal.

First year Mel Johnson charted six saves while recording the clean sheet. Muskingum keeper Katie Bodenmiller was credited with four stops.

Earlham outshot visiting Muskingum, 16-8. Each team had four corner kick opportunities.

The Quakers return to action on Sunday, Sept. 1, when they head to Notre Dame, Ind. (South Bend) to face St. Mary's College. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
