RICHMOND, Ind. – Earlham College women's volleyball rode a .215 hitting percentage and a pair of double-digit kill performances to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-22) win over Albion College in Friday's opening match of the 2019 Quaker Classic, held at the Druley Performance Gym.

The Quakers could not carry that momentum into their second match of the day and dropped a 3-1 (25-17, 25-23, 19-25, 25-16) loss to IU-Southeast in Friday's nightcap.

Junior pin hitter Julia Stewart tallied 13 kills while hitting .300 for the match in the win over Albion, and also recorded 13 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Caroline Mulvihill put away 11 kills on a .379 hitting percentage. Sophomores Abbey Zanatta and Sarah Dickman each chalked up seven kills.

Senior setter Lauren Jackson inched closer to the Earlham career assists record with 32 assists versus the Britons. Senior Sydney Ameluxen turned up 21 digs to pace the Quakers defensively.

Albion was led by Alexa Hitchko and Kate Winter with nine kills each, with the Britons hitting at a .144 clip for the match.

Earlham ran into a much tougher foe in its second match, and hit just .141 against IU-Southeast.

Stewart and Mulvihill again led the Quakers offensively with nine kills apiece, and also paced the team defensively with 10 digs each. Sophomore Giselle Mora and Dickman each added eight kills to aid the Earlham cause. Jackson recorded 19 assists with freshman Erin Wagner collecting nine assists.

Earlham closes out the 2019 Quaker Classic on Saturday, Sept. 14, with matches against Marietta College (10:00 a.m.) and Spalding University (2:00 p.m.).
