Men's hoops falls to hot-shooting Rose-Hulman squad

Box Score

RICHMOND, Indiana – Visiting Rose-Hulman shot 51.0 percent from the field and dominated the boards on its way to upending Earlham College men's basketball, 67-48, on Wednesday night at the Druley Performance Gym.

THE BASICS

Final Score:  Rose-Hulman 67, Earlham 48
Location: Richmond, Indiana – Druley Performance Gym
Records: Earlham 9-15, 5-12 HCAC / Rose-Hulman 13-11, 10-7 HCAC

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Quakers were within four of the Fightin' Engineers, 24-20, with 4:59 remaining in the opening half. Rose-Hulman closed out the frame with a 12-2 run, and extended its lead to 36-22 at the halftime break.

Earlham was unable to make up any ground on Rose-Hulman in the second half. Buckets by Chainey Zolman and Kenneth Stalling Jr. to open the half cut the margin to 10 points, 36-26, but that was as close as the Quakers would get. Another brief surge later in the second half cut the Engineer lead to 11, 51-40, on Blake Bonin's 3-pointer with 7:58 showing on the clock, however, Rose-Hulman responded with layups from Eli Combs and Zach Callahan to eventually escape the threat.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

Stalling led the Quakers with 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting and a 2-for-2 mark at the line.

Zolman tallied 11 points and a team-high five rebounds and completed his stat line with three assists, two blocks, and three steals. Bonin and AJ White finished with nine and eight points respectively.

Four Rose-Hulman players finished in double digits, led by Terry Hicks with 13 points off the bench. Craig McGee posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Fightin' Engineers went 26-of-51 from the floor while Earlham was 18-of-49 (.367) from the floor. Rose-Hulman had 33 rebounds to Earlham's 23.
