LEXINGTON, Kentucky – Earlham College men's basketball had no answer for a three-point barrage from Transylvania University, falling to the Pioneers, 101-75, on Friday night at the Beck Center.
Transy (4-6) went 18-of-30 (.600) from beyond the arc on its way to shooting 52.9 percent (36-of-68) from the field. Earlham (1-4) answered with a 41.2 percent (28-of-68) field goal shooting percentage, and the Quakers connected on just eight of their 27 3-point attempts.
Tommy Makabu paced Earlham with 17 points, including a 7-of-8 clip from the free-throw line, while
Jamel Barnes Jr. tallied 13 points and dished out four assists.
Josh Ozanne charted 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Transy's Zach Larimore guided the Pioneers with 24 points, while Lucas Gentry and Dominique Turner scored 18 and 15 points respectively.
An 8-0 run early in the first half vaulted Transy into a double-digit lead, 20-8, before the 14-minute mark on the clock, and a 12-0 Pioneer surge later in the frame allowed Transylvania to take a 58-37 lead into the halftime intermission.
Earlham managed to get within 20 of the Pioneers just once in the second half, when a Makabu jumper with 13:23 to play in the game cut the margin to 19 points, 73-54.
Earlham men's basketball completes the two-game series against Transylvania when it hosts the Pioneers on Sunday, Jan. 31, at the Druley Performance Gym. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
