ANDERSON — The Earlham College volleyball team scored a straight-set win over Anderson University on Saturday afternoon.
The Quakers improved to 15-5 (4-1 HCAC) while the ravens fell to 9-11 (2-3 HCAC).
Maria Young led the Quakers offense with 13 kills and an astounding .440 hit percentage.
Giselle Mora also hit double digits with 10 kills.
Erin Wagner funneled the attack at the front line with 30 setting assists.
Mallory Cox collected 14 digs and scored two serving aces. The Quaker defense held the Ravens to a .081 clip for the entire match.
Earlham controlled the first frame from the onset with a 5-0 run right out of the gates. Later in the set, a 7-0 run for the Quakers cemented their lead. Earlham attacked at a .448 clip in the first set with only two errors as a team.
The second set saw a resurgence from the Ravens as the set was much more closely matched. Earlham attacked at its lowest percentage in the second frame at just .133. A pair of 4-0 runs in the middle and late stages of the set helped the Quakers to win the set.
Leading 10-9 in set three, the Quakers rallied for a 10-2 run to carry massive momentum through the set. Undeterred however, the Ravens managed to regroup and mount a 9-point run to close the gap back to the lead. Tied at 21, the Quakers won the match off of a 4-point run in the third set.
Earlham will be back in action on Wednesday at Defiance College. The match is slated for 7 p.m. and will begin the final week of away games for the Quakers, who will end their season with consecutive home matches.
