RICHMOND -- The Earlham College women's basketball team fell in the Quaker Bowl rivalry game to Wilmington College 93-65 on Tuesday evening.
Earlham fell to 0-5 while Wilmington improved to 3-2.
Janaiya Bright led the offense with 19 points. The freshman also tied for the team-high in rebounds with seven.
Alexis Gibson was the other Quaker with seven rebounds, she also equalled
Amari Bradford with 13 points on the evening. Gibson also led the contest with five steals.
Earlham struggled to score early, and faced an 18-0 deficit after five minutes of play. This struggle was echoed in the Quaker's first quarter shooting percentage of 17.6%.
The Earlham offense gained some traction in the second quarter and shot at a 47% clip through the remainder of the contest.
While Earlham managed to score more consistently after the first quarter, Wilmington kept the pressure on throughout the game with its high-powered offense.
The WIlmington duo of Kennedy Lewis and Zahrya Bailey were too much together for the Quakers to handle. The pair combined for 39 points, 14 rebounds and six steals.
Earlham will have the rest of the week to iron out any issues before the conference slate begins on Saturday. Manchester University will be bringing both its men's and women's squads to Druley Performance Gym to begin HCAC competition for Earlham in the 2021-22 season. Tip-off for the women's game is set for 1 pm.
