RICHMOND -- The Earlham College volleyball team has punched it's ticket to the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship game with a 3-1 win over Hanover College in the semifinals.
The Quakers improve to 20-5 while the Panthers fall to 17-10 in the season.
Giselle Mora and
Maria Young paced the offense with 12 kills each.
Olivia Kyrk scored 12 kills and had a team-high .346 hitting percentage of players with at least 10 attacks.
Caroline Mulvihill collected five blocks and scored three serving aces, both game highs.
Erin Wagner set up a game-high 43 assists and surpassed the 1,000 assist mark for the season during the match.
Earlham had a high-pressure offense and controlled the first two sets. The Quakers attacked at a .393 and .244 clip as a team in the first two frames and held the visitors to under .100 in both sets.
Things unraveled for the No. 1 seeded Quakers in the third set. Hanover held them to a .132 attack percentage while the panthers hit for .353. Before a late resurgence by Earlham, the Quakers were trailing 23-12 in the set and rallied a 6-1 run.
The final set saw a return to form for the Earlham defense, holding Hanover to just eight kills and a negative attack percentage in the frame. The offense still saw struggles though as the Quakers attacked below .100. Trailing 23-20, Earlham marched on five consecutive points with Mora serving and three Quaker kills to end the set and make the championship game.
The Quakers will meet the Pioneers of Transylvania in the final after a 3-1 victory over Mount St. Joseph. Earlham defeated the Pioneers in straight-sets when they met in the regular season. The championship game will take place in Druley Performance Gym tomorrow at 1 pm.
