Terry tops 30 points in non-conference win

RICHMOND – The Earlham College men's basketball team scored its second consecutive win in Druley Performance Gym with a 75-73 showing over Kenyon College on Saturday afternoon. 

The Quakers improved to 3-6 (0-3 HCAC) while the Lords fell to 1-9 (0-4 NCAC).

Jaden Terry scored a career-high 32 points while collecting eight boards, four steals and four assists. Kolden Vanlandingham also had a strong day with 15 points and shooting 75% from 3-point range. 

The Quakers jumped out to a lead early in the contest and had a 12-3 advantage after three minutes of play. 

The Quakers shot 46.88% from the field in the first half, and made 4-of-9 attempts from 3-point range in the frame.

Leading 26-14 at the midway point of the half, Earlham gave up a 10-1 run to the Lords which brought the score to 27-24 with 7:35 remaining. 

After the halftime break, the Lords scored 3-pointers on three consecutive possessions to take a 45-44 lead, their first of the contest. 

Kenyon led for the majority of the second half and stretched the lead to as many as six points during the stretch. Trailing 66-60 with 3:43 remaining in regulation, the Quakers began a 13-2 run to recover the lead with just under two minutes remaining. 

With the score at 73-68 in favor of Earlham, the Lords fought back in the final 22 seconds. A 3-pointer made the score 73-71, the Quakers made one free throw on their next possession and Kenyon followed with a layup to trail by one with four seconds left. 

Again, the Quakers made one free throw and led by two points, the Lords attempted a buzzer-beating 3-pointer which hit the rim but bounced away as time expired. 

The Quakers have an 11-day break for Christmas before taking on the Big Red of Denison University in Granville, Ohio on December 29. After Denison, the Earlham will travel to Franklin College to resume HCAC action on New Year's Day.
