RICHMOND, Indiana – Earlham College senior
Rosie Newhart celebrated Senior Day with her first collegiate double-double, while two other Quakers scored in double figures, but it was not enough to gain the upperhand on visiting Rose-Hulman in a 54-47 loss to the Fightin' Engineers on Sunday at Druley Performance Gym.
Newhart finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds, including seven offensive boards. She was 4-of-6 shooting from the floor with a pair of foul shots.
Senior
Kayla Bowling led Earlham with 16 points and five rebounds with five steals, while first year
Marissa Quiroz charted 11 points with five boards. Fellow senior
Acacia Tenette hauled down seven rebounds with three assists and three steals to aid the Quakers' cause.
Earlham struggled to find its shooting touch throughout the game and finished with a 26.8 percent (15-of-56) clip from the floor. That left the Quakers unable to exploit a Rose-Hulman squad that was having its own shooting woes; the Engineers finished with 36.6 percent (15-of-41) shooting from the field.
The Quakers outrebounded the Engineers, 37 to 34, including a 16-8 advantage on the offensive glass.
Rose-Hulman had three players in double digits, led by Nola Wilson with 12 points. Ashley Black and Mira Randolph charted 11 points each, while Rose Burnham had a team-high 10 rebounds.
In the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference's "blind draw" tournament, Earlham drew the no. 2 seed. The Quakers will host a quarterfinal game on Wednesday, March 3, against the winner of the no. 7 Hanover vs. no. 10 Rose-Hulman opening round game this weekend.
