CRAWFORDSVILLE, Indiana – Earlham College men's lacrosse jumped out to an early lead but the Quakers were unable to sustain that momentum as the Quakers fell to a tough Wabash College squad, 13-4, on Friday evening at Fischer Field.
Sam Sargent scored the game's first goal just 38 seconds into the contest to briefly give Earlham a 1-0 lead, but Wabash responded with three goals of its own before the end of the quarter for a 3-1 advantage.
The Little Giants scored four straight to open the second quarter to extend their lead to 7-1, before
Logan Reihing's EMO goal with 3:46 to play in the frame cut the margin to 7-2.
Wabash tacked on another goal with just under two minutes remaining in the opening half, sending the teams into the intermission with the Little Giants holding an 8-2 lead.
The Little Giants added two more goals to open the third quarter, leading to Reihing's second goal of the day with 5:48 showing on the game clock. Reihing's second tally was also an extra-man goal with Sargent getting credit with an assist.
Sargent capped Earlham's scoring with just four seconds left in the third quarter, with
Jason Slain receiving an assist.
Wabash outshot Earlham, 58-18, with Quakers goalie
Steven Shaughnessy charting a season-high 19 saves. The Little Giants had a 64-36 advantage in ground balls, and won 19 of the game's 21 face-offs.
Earlham men's lacrosse will be back in action on Wednesday, March 17, when the Quakers host Mount Vernon Nazarene. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
