Women's soccer takes draw out of HCAC clash with Bluffton

FINAL SCORE: Earlham 1, Bluffton 1 (2OT)
LOCATION: Richmond, Indiana (Darrell Beane Stadium)
RECORDS: Earlham 1-3-1 / Bluffton 0-4-1

RICHMOND, Indiana – The Earlham College women's soccer team followed up last week's first victory of the season with a 1-1 draw against Bluffton University at Darrell Beane Stadium on Wednesday, March 17.

Nicole Burkett provided the scoring for the Quakers in the first half with her first goal of the season.

With the draw, the Quakers are now 1-3-1 overall and in conference play, while Bluffton is winless on the season with a 0-4-1 record.

Burkett got the scoring started in the 34th minute when Jenna Hoeh connected on a nice assist to give the hosts a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.  The score remained 1-0 until the 77th minute when Caroline Schutz scored the equalizer off an assist from Zoe Ryan.  Neither team generated any scoring chances in the either of the two overtime periods.

"Today we really fought hard and that was the biggest thing for me today.  In previous matches when goals were scored against us our heads dropped, and today we changed that mindset and had a few scoring chances late in the match," said head coach Stephanie Webb.  "We showed great resilience and the change in our mentality will be big for us moving forward."

Bluffton outshot Earlham 19-5 and had eight corners for the match while Earlham had 0.

Earlham women's soccer remains at home on Saturday, March 20 when they host Franklin College with a kickoff set for 4 pm at Darrell Beane Stadium.
