RICHMOND, Indiana – Earlham College baseball posted a pair of runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth to emerge victorious over Bluffton University, 4-1, on Wednesday evening at Sadler Stadium.
Danny Dopp doubled home
Brian Pincura with a two-out liner into center field in the seventh inning, and Dopp crossed when
Austin Hatfield singled into left field. Hatfield and was put out at second trying to stretch the hit into a double, but Dopp's run counted to give Earlham a 2-1 lead.
The Quakers extended their lead to 4-1 in the eighth, taking advantage of singles from
Isaiah Shake and
Christian Lancianese to open the frame. Pinch hitter
Maxwell Fries moved the runners around on a grounder to third, with Lancianese benefiting from a Bluffton error on an attempted force at second. Gendreau plated both Shake and Lancianese with a double through the left side, before a pair of fly outs to right field got Bluffton out of the inning.
Bluffton scored its lone run in the third inning, with an RBI double from Parker Reynolds put the Beavers on the scoreboard.
Earlham reliever
Jacob Renner picked up the win after coming on to pitch to Bluffton in the seventh, and he was the pitcher of record for the Quakers when they plated the go-ahead runs in the bottom half of the frame.
Domanick Michael finished off the Beavers in the ninth inning for his fourth save of the season.
Nathan Lancianese, Hatfield, and Gendreau each finished with two hits for the Quakers.
