SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Earlham College volleyball team swept Marietta College 25-15, 25-15, 25-21 on the opening day of the Wittenberg University Fall Invitational on Friday, Sept. 17.
Earlham trailed by a point in the first set before scoring 10 in a row to take control on its way to the win.
The Quakers jumped out to a 7-1 advantage in the second set as they were able to maintain their edge.
In what proved to be the final set, Earlham scored the last four points for the win as
Giselle Mora had a pair of kills and
Akiko Tajima had two aces.
Mora topped the Quakers with 16 kills and four aces as they won their fourth straight match. It was Earlham's second consecutive sweep and third of the season.
Caroline Mulvihill added nine kills with
Maria Young finishing with seven and
Olivia Kyrk contributing six.
Erin Wagner had 37 assists to pace Earlham's offense.
Defensively, Young had three blocks with
Jennifer Shamel recording 24 digs. Tajima added 10 digs.
The Quakers (7-3) play twice on Saturday with the first contest against Alma College at 10 a.m., while they finish the event with the host Tigers at 4 p.m.
