CLEVELAND, Ohio - With a victory in the second match on Friday, the Earlham College volleyball team spilt a pair of contests at the Case Western Reserve Tournament.
The Quakers defeated John Carroll University 25-13, 25-27, 26-24, 25-22 at the Veale Center. In the opening affair, the Quakers fell to Albion College 16-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-21.
Earlham fell behind early in the fourth set against John Carrol, trailing 12-4. The Quakers would battle back to even the set at 21-21 before going on to take the match.
Four Quakers recorded double digits in kills with
Sarah Dickman topping the list at 15.
Maria Young finished with 14 as
Giselle Mora had 13 and
Olivia Kyrk 10.
Erin Wagner had a career-high 55 assists in the four-set battle with the Blue Streaks (2-1).
Caroline Mulvihill led the team with three blocks.
Defensively,
Akiko Tajima had 26 digs with Mulvihill (15), Wagner (14),
Mallory Cox (13) and
Jennifer Shamel (12) also reaching double figures.
Against Albion (2-1), Mora led the way with 14 kills, while Kyrk was next with 10. Both players finished with three blocks.
Dickman added nine kills and Mulvihill had eight.
Wagner had 30 assists with 14 digs.
Skyler Murray contributed 10 assists.
Tajima led Earlham with 24 digs and Shamel finished with 14 digs.
Earlham (1-2) wraps up the event on Saturday with two more matches. The Quakers face Bethany College (0-1) at noon and Case Western (1-1) at 2 p.m.
John Carroll beat Bethany 24-26, 20-25, 25-22, 25-19, 15-12 on Friday.
