RICHMOND – The Earlham College men's basketball team returned to Druley Performance Gym with a 58-47 loss to Hanover College on Saturday.
The Quakers fell to 3-8 (0-5 HCAC) while the Panthers improved to 9-2 (5-1 HCAC).
Anthony Phillips returned to action with a team-high 12 points. The senior also recorded seven rebounds and one steal.
Chase Younts led the Quakers with nine boards, five of which were on the offensive side.
Earlham struggled to gain footing offensively with a 35.7 shooting percentage for the game.
Hanover jumped out to a 12-2 lead after five minutes of play. Earlham worked the score to 14-9 over the next three minutes. The Panthers had a strong offense in the first half, and shot at a 50% clip in the period. The lead stretched out to as many as 11 points in favor of the Panthers, who went into the break with a 33-22 lead.
The Quakers began the second half with a 14-2 run spanning 10 minutes of game time and brought the score to 40-38 with Hanover leading.
Hanover recovered and put up a 9-4 run to lead 49-42 with 3:42 remaining in the game. The Quakers stretched the final minutes of the contest to try to make up the difference, but the Hanover defense held the line down the stretch.
The Quakers are scheduled to continue action on Wednesday at Bluffton University with a 7:30 contest. Goearlham.com will have up-to-date information on any schedule changes as the season progresses.
