Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Earlham College volleyball team began the Red and Green Invitational at Washington University St Louis with a 3-0 loss to Grinnell College on Friday evening.
Due to an error with the statistics program, stats for the opening frame are currently incomplete.
Maria Young led the attack with 12 kills and a .216 percentage on the right side of the offense.
Liv Kyrk also was active with seven kills on the evening.
Erin Wagner dished out 22 assists and
Jen Shamel collected 11 digs in the back line.
The Quakers hit 11 kills with 10 errors in set two for a .024 percentage. Adversely, the Pioneers posted 10 kills with only one error on the set. After taking an early lead, Earlham allowed Grinnell to catch up and tie the set at four. With things still tied up at nine, Grinnell scored an 11-3 run and controlled the set with a score of 20-12.
EC fared better in set three with 10 kills and six errors as a team. The Quakers stayed in lock step with the Pioneers in the early part of the set and tied the score at nine. Grinnell then scored six straight points to lead 15-9. Earlham recovered some with a 3-0 run, and came within one point of the Pioneers with the score at 22-21. Grinnell ended the match on a 3-0 run in after the Quakers worked back into contention.
Earlham will continue the Red and Green Invitational tomorrow against No.7 Washington University and Wisconsin-Platteville. EC takes on the Bears at 10:30 am CT, and the Pioneers at 1 pm CT.
