GAMBIER, Ohio – The Earlham College men's basketball team couldn't hold on to a halftime lead in a 74-59 loss at Kenyon College on Monday evening. 

The Quakers fell to 0-2 on the season. 

Tommy Makabu had a big night offensively with 27 points, five rebounds, and five steals. Jaden Terry also reached double-digits with 11 points. James Holder led the Quakers with six rebounds, five of which were defensive. 

The Quakers had a 40% field goal percentage in the first half, but didn't convert a 3-point shot in the frame. Earlham jumped out to an 8-0 lead, and stretched the advantage to 21-8 at the midway point of the half. After the Earlham run, the Owls scored a 23-12 run through the end of the half, and closed the deficit to 33-31. 

After heading into halftime trailing by two, the Owls hit a quick 3-pointer and took the lead two minutes into the period. A 12-2 run by the home squad made the score 46-37 at the 15 minute mark remaining in regulation. The Quakers responded with an 8-1 run, and trailed by two with just over 11 minutes left on the clock. 

Kenyon scored a 12-4 run to lead 59-49 at the 6:28 mark, and the Owls scored a 9-0 run after a 3-pointer by Makabu. A free throw at the 52 second mark gave Kenyon its largest lead of the game at 74-57, and the Quakers ended the game with a layup by Zachariah Andre.

Earlham will be back in action on Friday in Druley Performance Gym against Otterbein University. Tip-off against the Cardinals is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
