HANOVER – The Earlham College men's basketball snapped its winning streak with an 85-75 defeat at Hanover College on Saturday afternoon.
The Quakers fell to 8-10 (4-7 HCAC) while the Panthers improved to 16-3 (12-2 HCAC).
Kolden Vanlandingham shone brightly with a career-high 31 points. The freshman from Richmond also collected eight boards in his 40 minutes of play.
Tommy Makabu also posted an impressive stat line with 23 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.
After trailing 9-6 at the 16:38 mark, the Quakers scored a 12-2 run to lead 16-11. Vanlandingham scored two 3-pointers at the start of the run.
The Panthers responded with a pair of 3-pointers on consecutive possessions to retake the lead. The Quakers then scored a 9-2 run spanning the next 3:20.
After trailing 28-22, Hanover scored a 20-2 run to assert a lead with two minutes remaining in the half.
The Panthers went into the break with a 46-35 lead, and scored a 12-5 run coming into the second half.
Trailing 62-44, Earlham scored a 14-4 run to close down the gap to the Panthers midway through the second half.
The Quakers closed the gap to as little as five points during the second frame, but were unable to recover from the first half deficit.
Earlham will be back in action on Wednesday as they host Bluffton University in Druley Performance Gym at 7:30 pm.
