Baseball wins two against Principia

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 RICHMOND – The Earlham College baseball team won a doubleheader series against Principia College by a combined score of 31-4 on Wednesday evening.

The Quakers improved to 7-1 while the Panthers fell to 0-5.

GAME ONE: Earlham 21  Principia 4 (7 innings)

Catcher Nathaniel Whetstine and right fielder Noah Collins led the Quaker bats in the first game with three hits and two RBI each.

Nate Hemmerich started the day off on the mound and recorded the win with six strikeouts and six hits allowed. Chance Strickley recorded two strikeouts in relief and Dillon Bandi closed out the final inning for Earlham.

Principia scored first after a two-run home run in the top of the first inning. The Quakers responded with an unearned run after a throwing error to first base allowed Andrew Sale to make a break for home.

After a single up the middle brought in a run for the Panthers, it was all Earlham on the scoreboard.

The Quakers got the ball rolling with three runs in the second inning, and added four more in the bottom of the fourth. A massive 10-run inning in the bottom of the sixth spelled the end for Principia who had managed just one score since the second inning.

GAME TWO: Earlham 10  Principia 0 (7 innings)

Collins led Earlham in game two with three hits and one RBI. David Lally earned the win after starting on the mound and scoring two strikeouts.

Earlham scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning off of consecutive outfield hits. The Quakers added three more runs in the bottom of the second inning after good baserunning put runners in scoring position.

A sacrifice fly from Nathan Lancianese in the bottom of the fourth brought in Christian Lancianese for the seventh run of the game.

The final scoring play came in the bottom of the fifth inning when Andrew Sale hit an inside the park home run to center field, bringing in three RBI on the play.

Earlham will host Hope College on Friday for a doubleheader after Saturday's game was canceled due to weather concerns.
