RICHMOND – The Earlham College baseball team swept conference rival Transylvania University on Tuesday evening to take sole possession of first place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. During the wins,
Andrew Bradley scored the two home runs he needed to tie and break the single-season record for homers in a season. Bradley passes
Danny Dopp and Eric Elkus with 11 home runs so far in the 2022 season.
The Quakers improved to 18-6 (7-1 HCAC) while the Pioneers fell to 10-15 (4-4 HCAC) after being picked to win the conference in the preseason poll.
GAMEONE: EARLHAM 12 TRANSY 7
Devin Basley led at the plate in game one with two hits and three RBI, including a two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning over the Maroon Monster.
Zach Swearingen also tallied three RBI from two hits. Bradley recorded his first homer of the evening with a solo shot to left-center in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Dillon Fischer started the game on the mound and pitched 5.1 innings to earn the winning decision. He allowed three earned runs from five hits and struck out five batters.
Jacob Renner closed out the game with 2.2 innings and allowed just one baserunner through a walk while striking out two.
GAME TWO: EARLHAM 14 TRANSY 5
Bradley broke the home runs record in game two with a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Cameron McCabe scored three hits and one RBI.
Nate Hemmerich got the start for the Quakers and tossed three innings with three strikeouts and three hits. A total of five Earlham pitchers saw action in game two with
Dillon Bandi earning the winning decision.
The Quakers will be back in Sadler Stadium on Friday to host Bluffton University for an HCAC doubleheader. First pitch is set for 5 pm.
