RICHMOND – With a sweep of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Sadler Stadium on Saturday, the Earlham College baseball team regained its place atop the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings in dominant fashion.
The Quakers improved to 20-8 (9-3 HCAC) while the Engineers fell to 18-9 (9-5 HCAC).
GAME ONE: EARLHAM 8 ROSE-HULMAN 6
Justin Dillhoff tossed seven complete innings with six strikeouts and surrendered two earned runs on five hits.
Jacob Renner earned a save with 1.1 innings pitched and one strikeout.
Andrew Bradley added to his already impressive season with five hits, four RBI, a home run, and a double in game one.
Cameron McCabe tallied two RBI and a sacrifice hit on the afternoon.
McCabe's sac fly put the Quakers on top in the bottom of the first inning. Things got better in the bottom of the third when the Engineers walked two runs in for the home squad.
The Quakers scored another run from a walk in the bottom of the sixth inning before Bradley cleared the bases with a grand slam to left-center field.
With the Quakers leading 8-0, Rose-Hulman scored on a groundout in the top of the seventh inning. A grand slam in the top of the eighth before Renner pitched a clean ninth inning.
GAME TWO: EARLHAM 11 ROSE-HULMAN 2
Aidan Talarek threw six innings with two earned runs on eight hits. The senior recorded four strikeouts on the afternoon.
Nathan Lancianese scored three hits in game two, including a solo homer to center field in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The Quakers took the lead off of an unearned run in the bottom of the third inning, and scored a second run with a walk later in the inning.
The Engineers fought back with a run in the top of the fourth inning, but left another stranded on base.
A double from
Nathan Lancianese in the bottom of the sixth brought
Zach Swearingen home for the score to put EC ahead 3-1.
A three-RBI double from
Michael Medley in the bottom of the sixth inning gave the Quakers an 8-2 lead before Earlham added three more to the tally in the eighth.
Earlham will host Trine on Wednesday for its final non-conference matchup of the season in Sadler Stadium at 6 pm. Senior Day will follow on Saturday against Anderson in Sadler Stadium.
